Jerry Miller, founder and owner of The Kosmos Restaurant, has led a vibrant, adventure-filled life that continues to inspire.

In his early 20s, Jerry embarked on a journey of global exploration. Leaving his hometown of Mansfield, Ohio, he set out for Sydney, Australia, in search of adventure. After working in a hardware store and exploring the Australian outback, Jerry decided to return to the United States. However, a chance encounter with a European couple changed his plans. They inspired him to hitchhike home by circumnavigating the globe. With a backpack on his shoulders, Jerry traveled from Perth to Singapore and Malaysia, then to India on a WWII-era ship. His journey continued through Pakistan, the Khyber Pass, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, and Yugoslavia, culminating in Zurich, where he caught a flight to New York and finally returned to Ohio. The adventures he experienced along the way were unforgettable.

Fast forward a couple of decades, Jerry found himself in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While road-tripping west after a 20-year IT career in Chicago, Jerry unexpectedly fell in love with the Land of Enchantment and decided to stay—a decision that changed his life.

In 2003, Jerry and two partners purchased a 15,000-square-foot 1930s-era warehouse in Albuquerque’s Wells Park. They originally envisioned it as a live/work loft space but pivoted after facing funding challenges. Instead, Jerry transformed the space into “Factory on 5th Art Spaces,” a thriving artist hub featuring over 30 studios and two galleries. The warehouse’s north end became home to “The Kosmos,” a venue for the popular Sunday morning symphony group, Church of Beethoven.

By 2017, Church of Beethoven, renamed Sunday Chatter, had outgrown the space, opening the door for Jerry’s next chapter. With brewpubs flourishing in the area, Jerry decided it was time to tackle a new challenge: opening a restaurant. He partnered with fellow artist David Cudney, who helped bring the vision of The Kosmos Astro Pub to life. Together, they spent a year designing the space, with Jerry focused on creating the perfect burger. After months of experimentation, The Kosmic Burger® was born.

Fate intervened again when Jerry crossed paths with Cheyne Bishop, a talented young chef who had previously rented a studio at Factory on 5th. Cheyne’s culinary passion and commitment to scratch-made dishes were exactly what Jerry needed. Jerry hired Cheyne on the spot, and together, they transformed The Kosmos into a “made-from-scratch” kitchen with one of the highest restaurant ratings in New Mexico.

Today, The Kosmos Restaurant is a testament to Jerry’s adventurous spirit, creativity, and determination. From the meticulously crafted Kosmic Burger® to a menu filled with fresh, house-made dishes, The Kosmos offers an unforgettable dining experience.
